Mailing Questions

What is the difference between first-class mail and presorted first class mail?

Regular first-class mail is mailed at the full-price rate, usually mailed with a stamp. Presorted first-class mail is sorted to earn a discounted rate from the post office. When some of the work is already done for the post office, you don’t have to pay for that portion of the postage.

How much is the postage for bulk mail per piece?

There is not one set price per mailed piece. The price varies based on how many pieces are going to each ZIP code in your mailing list, the size of your mail piece and the weight of your mail piece.

What is the minimum number of pieces required to obtain bulk mail rates?

Five hundred pieces for presorted first class mail and 200 for standard mail are required.

What is the difference between presorted first-class and standard bulk mail?

Presorted first-class mail is never opened by the post office and is required for handwritten materials, invoices and statements. Anything that is able to be sent via the US Mail can be mailed first class. First-class mail also includes mail forwarding and return if it cannot be forwarded. Standard mail is subject to inspection and can be opened by the post office – it is generally used for advertising, newsletters, flyers and catalogs. Standard mail is not forwarded or returned unless requested and may incur an additional charge.

Is there difference in time frame for delivery of presorted first class vs. standard mail?

Yes, presorted first class usually mails within 1 to 3 business days and is given priority by the post office. Standard usually mails within 3 to 5 days in state and 7 to 14 out of state, but there is no guaranteed time frame.
